Questions people actually ask.

Written from the ones that come up most. If yours is not here, mail it to me and it probably will be.

Getting started

How do I install it?

You don't. Unzip it anywhere you like and run Aosda.exe. Everything it needs travels with it, including the map and route data, so there is no installer.

Keep the Data folder next to the program. That is where your routes, maps and settings live.

Is there anything to set up before it works?

One thing. Open Options, and on the General page point it at your Darkages.exe. There is a Browse button beside the box.

That is the one thing it cannot work out for itself, and it is what lets Aosda launch the game for you. Set it once and it is remembered.

Profiles

What is a profile?

Everything you have set on a character's pages, saved under a name: what it casts on itself, who it heals and buffs, what it attacks and with what, its bashing and Dojo settings, its safety switches. A profile belongs to the character it was saved on, and a character can have as many as you like. One for hunting and one for a boss, say.

How do I make one?

Open the character from the dashboard and set it up page by page. Self is its own buffs, heals and safety. Aislings is who it looks after. Monsters is what it attacks and how. Bashing and Dojo if you use them. Every change applies as you make it, so you can watch it work.

When it behaves the way you want, press Save in the header and give it a name. Nothing is written to disk until you do. Saving again asks whether to overwrite that profile or save a new one.

Keep the name to one word if you want to load it by typing.

How do I load one?

Load in the same header lists every profile saved for that character. In game, /load <name> does the same, and /clr puts the settings back to defaults.

For hunting, each member in the Auto Hunt window has a profile box, and the group loads it when the hunt begins. A member with nothing chosen hunts with whatever it already had, so choose one.

Commands

What can I type in game?

Type /help in the game's chat and the full list prints into your own window, grouped by what it is for. Nobody else sees it. There are more than forty, and these are the ones people reach for first.

/helpPrint every command, grouped
/load <name>Load a saved profile onto this character
/search <item>Find an item across your characters, bank included
/repair <item|all>Repair at the nearest NPC
/f <name> [dist]Follow someone at a set distance
/g <name|alts>Invite a character, or all of your own, to the group
/phase <stage>Jump a hunting group to a phase
/forgetwarp [x y]Forget a doorway the bot learned wrongly

Is there a help button in the app as well?

The Auto Hunt window has a ? in its title bar that explains every field on the screen, phase by phase, including what the group is waiting for when it looks like it is doing nothing. The Waypoints window has one too.

Routes and hunting

How do I make a hunting route?

Open Waypoints and you are looking at the actual map, drawn out with its walls and doors. Pick a map from the box at the top, add it to the route, then click the tiles you want walked, in order. Right click a tile to take it back off.

Add as many maps to one route as you like and the characters work out the travel between them on their own. Save it, pick who should run it, and press Load.

You do not have to walk anything to build a route, and you do not have to be logged in to edit one.

Do I have to build routes from scratch?

No. The download includes a set covering Tavaly, Nobis, Chadul, Plamit and the Giragan runs, among others. Open one, see how it is laid out, and change it to suit you.

My hunting group stopped. Why?

It stopped on purpose, and it will tell you why. A group halts when a member is stuck somewhere it cannot route out of, when someone has been waiting too long for a step that never finished, or when the spot it needs is occupied by a player who is not part of the group.

The reason is on the group's tab and in the log. A group that quietly carried on without a missing member would cost you far more than one that stops and says so.

Can I skip a phase without restarting the whole thing?

Yes. /phase <stage> moves a group straight to Restocking, Traveling, Rallying, Forming, Buffing, Hunting, Returning, Ascending or Idle.

Maps going wrong

A character froze on a tile and will not move at all.

You have found a phantom warp, and it is worth understanding because it comes straight out of how the map learns.

The bot builds its picture of the world by watching. Every time one of your characters goes through a door it records where that door came out, which is what lets it route through rooms nobody has explicitly mapped. Occasionally it draws the wrong conclusion and writes down a doorway where the real game has nothing. A character sent to one is waiting on a door that will never open, and it stops there.

Stand on the bad tile and type /forgetwarp. The entry is removed and the correction is saved, so it will not come back.

If standing on it is the problem, give it the coordinates instead: /forgetwarp 12 30. Anywhere on the same map will do, so you can walk clear of the tile first and fix it from across the room.

What is Mapper for?

It is the index of every map the bot knows, searchable by name, and what it gives you is the map's ID. It does not draw anything.

That ID is how you send a character anywhere in the game. On a character's Self page there is a Walk to box holding about thirty-five common destinations, Tavaly and Nobis and the Giragan floors among them. Pick one and the character routes there on its own.

The box is not limited to that list. Type a map ID into it instead of picking a name and the character will route to that map, so anywhere the bot knows about is reachable whether or not somebody thought to put it in the list. That is what Mapper is for: search it for the place you want, take the number it gives you, type the number into Walk to.

Emptying the box stops the walk. To see a map drawn out, with its walls and doors, open Waypoints instead.

When something breaks

Where are the logs?

In the Logs folder beside the program. The newest file is the run you just had, and it usually contains the answer, including the reason a group stopped or a character gave up on a route.

What should I send when I report something?

Four things, and the fourth is the one people leave out:

  • What you expected to happen
  • What happened instead
  • Roughly when, so the log can be found
  • Which character, and where it was standing

The log file from that session is worth more than any description of it. Send it if you can.

A character disconnected overnight. Does it come back?

If auto-login is set up for it, yes. It logs back in and rejoins the group it was in. If it is not set up, it stays down until you start it, and the dashboard will show you which one dropped and when.

Still stuck?

Use the report page, which takes the log, or mail info@darkagesbot.com. This is a testing phase and hearing what went wrong is the entire reason it is out there, so a report that saves someone else the same hour is genuinely worth sending.
